Pushing a console to its limit

At the end of console’s life cycle game developers have mastered how to squeeze every last drop of processing power to make technically challenging games. Before we get towards the powerhouse games of the PS2-Gamecube-Xbox era let’s have a look back at what games pushed the Genesis, Super Nintendo and Atari to the limit. Retrogaming with Racketboy cites that Castlevania III made the most of the NES graphical resources. For the Genesis Gunstar Super Heroes combination of pseudo-polygonal effects and smooth gameplay gets the award.
