If you’re the kind of person who shied away from waiting out in the cold to get a Nintendo Wii you can still experience the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess at a budget price. Circuit City is selling the Gamecube version for only $37.99. The game is pretty much the same as the Wii version minus the motion sensitive controls. Twilight Princess on the Gamecube reverts back to the classic control scheme where Link’s attacks are mapped to the B button and tools on Y and X. If you haven’t picked up the Wii version, the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess will keep you busy until you can walk into a store and pick up a Wii without any fuss.
Personally I think it would be interesting to see how the game stacks up against the wii version. It seemed like many of the things in TP seemed crafted for the wii mote… though obviously that wasn’t the case since it was planned as a GC game; I wonder just how many things were added/changed because of the wii’s capabilities, and how they would be played out on the GC version. On the upside I would probably have more luck doing the sheild thrust. Maybe it’s just me, but I always seem to struggle to get the damned thing to register a sheild thrust rather than a spin attack or nothing. It could very well just be my own special disability; I have a friend who couldn’t get right-spin on the ball no matter how hard he tried in wii bowling.
I’m very glad they released it for both systems, it allowed themselves to not alienate any possible consumers. Very good plan.
I know they’re basically the same game, but I just couldn’t play it on the Gamecube after playing it on the Wii. Well, to be more accurate, I could, but I definitely wouldn’t want to. Archery always bugged me with Zelda, since I was no fan of analog sticks for first person shooting (though I still loved Metroid Prime), but with the Wiimote, it’s so fast and easy to pull off.
And it’s not just the pointing capability or the archery. Having the remote separated into two parts makes playing a traditional game like Zelda a significantly more comfortable experience. It just bugs me even more when people say they “don’t want to look like an idiot” while playing video games, in reference to the Wii. First, you shouldn’t care. You play video games. You’re a nerd whether you pretend to be cool or not. Second, you can still be as lazy as you want for traditional games like Zelda, and I enjoy this all the time.
I think Penny Arcade has an excellent old strip on this, but their search button is broken…
Thanks goodness for Nintendo releasing this title on the ‘cube. I remember seeing sample video of this title like 10 years ago. All I can remember from the shot is that is was a nice CGI short of Link and Ganondorf charging each other and clashing weapons. Now the game is realized.
This game gives me some added use of my GC while I wait on alternate-colored Wiis to appear, from what I hear could be sometime in the middle of next year. Come on Onyx Wii!! Arrive already!!

Sweet! It’s not that I’m a purist or anything, I just can’t afford a Wii right now, nor can I wait much longer to play Twilight Princess. With comparisons being drawn between TP and Ocarina of Time, the sooner I play this the better, and at a cheaper price point, what’s not to love about the Cube Zelda? (except for lack of widescreen of course)
