Last night Capcom threw a party to celebrate the release of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition in North America. Siliconera reader, Andy Brennan, hung out with the Capcom crowd and snapped pictures of the event for all of us to see.
“Inside we immediately noticed the huge amount of fog provided by some sort of machine attached to the roof. It was seriously like an enormous cloud in the middle of the room. The place was filled with Xbox 360 consoles to play; either the main game or online with anyone else at the event. It was pretty easy to find and play one since there were so many stations.
The entire place was going for a sort of icey wasteland motif, but it was fairly scattered. Ice sculptures with computer equipment frozen inside, wooden planks for tables and cinder blocks for seats, and one or two trashed cars could be seen.
In contrast with that I was surprised to see food available. Pizza was brought out on trays for the crowd, and a complete meal featuring rice, salad and kabobs was set out if one so desired. We of course took advantage of this cause free food is always awesome. There were also some booths with energy drinks served in wine glasses with ice. Very classy. Or something.“

“Towards the head of the room were two rows of 360 stations and two enormous projection screens for people playing in a tournament. We didn’t stay long enough to find out who won, but there were entire groups of people called up one at a time to play in the tournament.
Also available was an inflatable climbing wall/mountain. It looked fun but sorta flimsy and none of us particularly felt the need to climb.
Eventually a booth was set up for people to buy a collector’s edition copy of Lost Planet along with a t-shirt. T-shirts were being printed on-the-spot and a long line developed for them. Shortly after that another booth was set up with the director and producers of Lost Planet. I can’t recall their names since they were only announced once, but the creator of Mega Man was one of them (Editors note: It looks like Keiji Inafune, the creator of Lost Planet and Mega Man was there from the pictures). Though they said free posters were available and could be signed, when we went up to get an autograph we were informed they "were not signing them now". The posters were huge and in great supply though.
That famous lego builder guy was there and showing off his crazy skills. He quickly finished a lego sculpture of the mech-style machine that’s ridable in Lost Planet. (though he did cheat a bit by gluing on the arms)
By the end of the night the entire place was covered with a heavy haze which is evident in all of the photos I took using a flash.
All in all it was exciting, new and different (for us anyway) and very impressive. The ice sculptures and food were particularly surprising, but the festive, laid-back feel of the entire thing was really great.
