Watch: 300: March to Glory trailer

300 is coming to theaters this spring and (surprise!) it has a video game coming out for it. Collision Studios who made the Camp Lazlo GBA game is handling the game’s development. The trailer below shows the footage of the game after the movie clips and it reminds me of portable God of War with blockier graphics. The slow motion effects during attacks look cool, but it is not clear if that is actual gameplay footage or crafty trailer editing. Also interesting to note is that 300: March to Glory is only scheduled for the PSP and it’s the only game based on the movie. Why would Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment only choose the PSP? They brought Happy Feet to nearly every console under the sun, except the PSP.

To answer your question, production of the game was probably only greenlit by Warner Brothers after the movie itself entered production, which would have left about one year (maybe less) to develop the title — which, while possible on small platforms like the PSP, is a very risky proposition indeed on heavier consoles such as PS2, XBOX or the next-gen PS3 / 360, which usually require 2-year-plus development cycles. CGI-based movies such as Happy Feet often take 2 or more years to make, which is why they often will come out with games on multiple platforms. It is noteworthy to mention that the Hollywood Reporter stated in an article that this is the first PSP title ever to ship day and date with a major motion picture — we should be glad to see a title at all, I guess!
