Your forgetting the software. Like all the Maddens, Halo, GTA, etc. Very strong sales from those games here, and Xbox games are helping in leading that way.

But we like Final Fantasy like Japan does, and vice versa at times. GTA games do well in Japan, and I think the Ratchet & Clank games as well.

Frankly I'm not sure that the western gaming industry is leading the gaming market. I think Takeuchi-san is a bit modest and perhaps idolizes games made in the west. Most leading consoles are japanese and 90% of their games are japanese (except for the xbox 360 but it probably represents only 10% of the gaming field if you count the PSP, NDS, PS2 and WII).

Of course, you can see I've excluded PC games because for me, PC gaming is a different type of gaming. Most of the people mostly play on either a console or a PC, rarely both. Except for the FPS, the game are different too.

Gear of War was a success in Japan because it was a groundbreaking game. Any typical western game wouldn't do that good and would probably not sell at all. Japan was and is still a """racist""" country in terms of gaming, japanese games are rarely designed for the west and it has always been that way. Just look at how many anime games or RPG you can find on Super Famicom and which didn't come to the west. At the time of the SFC, the RPG was highly popular in Japan and unknown in the west. And what type of game was mostly produced on the SFC?

RPG. This isolationism has always existed and I'm not against it. I like japanese culture so it's fine with me.
