Localizing Ouendan to the village people?

By Spencer . March 8, 2007 . 8:25am

During Keiichi Yano’s panel he spoke about the difficulties of localizing Ouendan for a Western audience. Before Inis decided on the cool blend of Blues Brothers, Charlie’s Angels and Austin Powers to create the Elite Beat Agents, they were considering a “hot blooded” designs inspired by the Village People. While the Village People version of Ouendan got canned early on, traces of its influence are in Elite Beat Agents. Look closely at Commander Khan, his look was based off of the cop in the Village People.

At the end of the panel there was a little discussion about Ouendan’s burning sequel and the new rival cheer squad. See pictures past the break.

The rival Ouendan are playable characters and in this stage they are cheering on a shoe salesman who is selling shoes to aliens.

Have yet to play Elite Beat Agents, but my two fav. songs from Ouendan were Morning Musume’s “Koi no Dance Site” w/ the Egyptian theme/Cleopatra, and Fullmetal Alchemist’s 2nd OP, used in the last stage when the meteor’s crashing into earth.
