Capcom shows the evolution of Ryu

Here is a neat slide that BendAid sent in with to show us Ryu’s new look for Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. The final drawing on the right is the version of Ryu that will appear on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 later this year. Ryu does look better compared to the scaled sprite, but nothing is really different except his blue tinted Karate Gi.

I was honestly hoping for more, but as the game is apparantly ‘pixel-for-pixel’ perfect, I guess they couldn’t really redo the sprites to an extreme length. It still looks nice, though. I look forward to the other sprites (Fei Long!!) and hopefully some trailers, and of course, the moment of actually playing it.

Oh, my bad for the double comment, but his face is different this time too. Looks, from this picture anyway, like the SSFIIT GBA profile pic he had. Also he seems a lot more fuller instead of the old slimmer version. Hoping the detail will increase and the light/shadow is more anime like, or pretty much how it is in the comic books.

What’s Sol Badguy doing up there?

Kikimaru Says:

@Bitores Mendez:
Sol’s just there for size comparism — he’s about half the height & half the width of the new HD Ryu, so either 1/4 or 1/2 the detail.

XTRO Says:

ryu was wearing blue tinted gi, since sf2 Hyper Fighting / Turbo non-hd 224p days :P.
I hope they will re-draw sprites for real, but considering the “HD” version puzzle fighter, i expect nothing more than sprites scaled with some sophisticated scaler, like HQ3X we see in some emulators :(

Badfish Says:

I’am glad Capcom is putting a little bit more effort into the Street Fighter franchise. However, Capcom really needs to get off their lazy butts and make a true sequel Street Fighter 4!. Capcom owes us the fans.

Lucca Says:

Lawl, Ryu got a Yellow Dot at the right leg x-D
