I’m sure you’ve seen tons of information about Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Square-Enix’s dramatic action game by now. But something that younger Final Fantasy fans may not know is the characters besides Sephiroth were originally drawn by Yoshitaka Amano. Instead of having him do the character design Tetsuya Nomura, known for Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts is taking the job in Dissidia: Final Fantasy. On top you can see the original artwork for the Knight from Final Fantasy’s Famicom box cover and below that Tetsuya Nomura’s take on it. Square-Enix mentioned that there would be at least ten playable "hero" characters in the game, which seems to suggest one lead character from each Final Fantasy title up to Final Fantasy X. That would make Cloud and Squall shoe ins for Dissidia: Final Fantasy. What about the other Final Fantasy games where Amano-san was the designer. Which characters do you want to see appear in Dissidia: Final Fantasy? Locke? Terra? Kain? Faris? The Onion Kid? From Final Fantasy IX, Zidane makes an appearance and you can see his comparison past the break.

Definitely interested in seeing how Amano’s stuff is redone in Nomura style. Problem is, Nomura is really (really) beginning to get samey. I love his stuff but everything is looking the same, with the exception of Subarashiki Kono Sekai.
“That would make Cloud and Squall shoe ins…”
I kind of laughed at that. Just reminded me of Shuyin from X-2 (who may as well be a platte swap for Tidus, assuming he’s in it).
I’m hoping for Setzer and maybe Edgar. They rock. Setzer especially.
Where are the female characters….seriously…I don’t want a whole male affair. Sephiroth is cool and all but I want me some Tifa, Terra/Tina. Heck, Rydia or whatever her name was too.
Put Kain and Tifa and I’m a happy man. But that’s true that only one hero per episode would be not enough.
I really hate Nomura’s style, it gets way too repetitive and over-the-top ridiculous for my taste. Amano’s work was always great and actually represented a world of fantasy.
I’d like to see Shadow and Cyan in the game.
Even though Nomura’s style is relative generic compared to the freelance artist Amano, it’s still interesting to his rendition of the established characters alrdy “designed” by Amano. Actually Nomura’s art style has constantly evolved as well, from the more anime-ish FF VII gradually becoming more realistic in VIII and then X & X2, and now reverting back to the more kiddish design in Kingdom Hearts, FF XIII Agito, and “It’s a Wonderful World”.
Seeing Zidane and Kuja is quite refreshing as they were SD in-game, not to mention they were some of my favorites as I quite like IX. Also I used to draw Zidane and Tidus a lot back in the days. Wonder if Tidus would be here, since he would look pretty similar to the 3D Zidane. Other than that Cecil and Setzer would be cool, Setzer would look like Alucard or something.
The game needs Kefka. There has never been a single more psychotic or creepy villain in FF history.
They should at least take some characters from IV and VI, and I dont really give a damn about VIII. The only character that stands out in it is Squall. and the only characters worth taking from X are Auron and maybe Seymour.
Great that they gave FF IX some welldeserved spotlight, that game has been way too critizised just cause it had superdeformed characters.
Give me some Cecil, Kain, Balthier, Gabranth, Locke, Terra, Zell..
Gimmie Squall, and Cloud, or Zack, and I’ll be happy.
I agree that it’s interesting to see Tetsuya’s take on the previous artwork. So far I think he’s done a great job translating Zidane, and Kuja. Can’t wait to see the rest.
I think Cloud should be in it, otherwise whats the point of having Sephiroth? Though i think it would be kinda cool to see Auron and Sephiroth beat the crap out of each other.
So Cloud and Auron should be in it. Squall would be nice but it would’nt be a horrible loss to leave him out. Tifa, Aeris, and Lulu would’nt be misplaced i think.
What are you guys on about, Tetsuya Nomura’s design’s are a million times better then Amano’s…
His characters are more defined and leave you wanting for more as Amano’s artwork are just plain…he should js stick to cover designs….lol kidding
Both are great but i like TN’s design alot
what the hell are you all talkignabotu dissing squall he was a greeat charactor that strays from the loud annoying lead charactors out there today and clouds the same way they both ahve to be in

FF 2 and 3 and 5 have limited heroes to put in the game, but 4, 6 - 12 have so much character it would be tough to choose from… I hope they get the fighting engine well so they can have sequels!
We all know Cid will be in here… but which one?!
I put my vote in for Celes, but I’m sure Tina would be the character they pick for FF VI rep
