Sony still committed to PS3 backwards compatibility

ps3back.jpgOver at Playstation.blog, the official Playstation blog run by Sony, there was an announcement about PS3 firmware 1.81 coming out tomorrow. The upgraded firmware fixes a glitch where the RGB option in the XMB bar menu sometimes switches back from full to limited. Good news (?) if you’re connecting your PS3 through an HDMI cable on a HD television, but there is more. At the tail end of the post there was this blurb from Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations:

We’re continually evaluating and improving PS2 software compatibility too. Where we can, we’ll look to share similar updates like this on our blog moving forward. Thanks for your ongoing feedback and support!

It’s a sign that the Playstation team hasn’t given up on fixing the handful of PS2 games with severe problems. I wonder what’s going to happen with Europe though and their version of Playstation 3s that emulate the PS2….

That's good to hear. Also, the last upgrade that enables us to transfer PS2 files back to the 8mb memory card via the adapter was much needed. Now fix that glitch so I can play Rumble Roses on the PS3 w/o that background noise :)

They might as well, these poor PS3 owners have nothing to play with :P

Constanting improving w/ updates is always a good thing. Also playing FolksSoul on the 20th.

Also enjoying Blu-Ray and DVDs upscaled to 1080p alrdy, so it's not all bad.
