You make the umm… Doritos Xbox 360 game

doritos360.jpgInstead of designing an advergame on their own Frito-Lay is asking gamers to develop an Xbox Live Arcade title based on Doritos. Aspiring game developers can send over ideas from June 21 to July 29 and five lucky people will have their dreams realized with the help of Xbox Live Arcade development teams. Each finalist will also receive a prize packaged worth over $6,000 (could be $6,001 worth of Cool Ranch chips!) and their game will be showcased on the Doritos website sometime in late October / early November. When the games appear online people can vote for one game to be brought to Xbox Live Arcade in 2008 for free.

The game has to be inspired by Doritos, so throw out the RPG script you’ve been working on unless you’re willing to replace the main character with a bag of Spicy Nacho chips. I’m guessing someone is already working on submitting Gears of War and Halo spinoffs, so I urge everyone to make something more creative. Like a magic carpet game where the carpet is replaced with a triangular tortilla chip and you fly from school to school replacing nutritious lunches with snack foods.

  • Doritos is being pretty smart about this. It costs them a lot less in prizes than it does in hiring a team of developers and designers for a whole year. I’d love to see a Parodius type shmup featuring a bag of Doritos as the ship shooting out chips.

  • That sounds like a great idea! And each type of chip can be a different kind of power up. Cool ranch can freeze ships into place, jalapeño chips can explode with fire and the main enemy can be spoofs off other snack foods.
