Famitsu found a website on Capcom’s main page for an unannounced 2D fighting game from the company who blew the genre out of the water. The teaser site with a fiery background says it is the first original fighting game to come out of Capcom’s doors in three years and more information is coming soon. Since Capcom lost the Marvel license this is not going to be an estranged sequel to Marvel versus Capcom 2. However, it might be related to Street Fighter. This year is the 20th anniversary of the series and it would be the perfect time to unveil a new installment in the series.
The mysterious fighting game is scheduled to debut in arcades later this year.
Right Importer. I nearly thought I was seeing something here. A NEW fighting game!
I have a hunch its going to be Street fighter 4, but I’am not holding my breath.
I thought this was a joke. Capcom making a new fighting game? Could this be Street Fighter 4 perhaps. Only time will tell. I sure hope it is Street fighter 4, please Capcom!
As excited as I am about the possibilities of what this game could become, the only thing that’s got me at the edge of my seat is hoping that Capcom wises up by bringing home a port to next-gen consoles. Even if they opted to skip retail altogether in favor of releasing their new 2D fighter as a download on XBLA/PSN, in case they were worried about how it would fare on store shelves.
With the arcade scene pretty much dead for the most part in America, while still going strong in Japan, this is basically Capcom’s only choice if they hope to bring it over for a Western audience.
Woot, capcom must have gotten tired of watching SNK pump out POS after POS and decided to get some good fighters back in the scene.

You prefer Capcom Fighting Jam over the latest SNKP titles? You can’t be taken seriously.
King of fighters is a good series (although I prefer Samurai shodow personally),it’s just that Street fighter has a more closer connection to most people. Heck, even my younger brother realizes that Street fighter is the Grand daddy of them all.
Personally, I feel that both Capcom and SNK fighters have sucked lately.
I wonder if this game will relate to the Chun-Li movie coming out next year?
IMHO, the ultimate winner would be “Capcom vs Mortal Kombat”… at last, cause that would be some sh*t!!
With the recent re-birth of the MK Franchise that could help it go in a new direction since there hasn’t ever been a “real 2D” MK fighter properly speakin’ also with the 60+ roster available on both sides, just imagine some 3v3 team matches or whatnot… YES PLEASE!
** puzzle fighter vs puzzle kombat unlockable on console version would be neat **
Well, that or a “Capcom vs Namco” game (come on, Ken Masters would pwn Heiyachi Mishima once and for all!) would do best, in order to bring the genre to it’s next level before it meets it’s doom… outside of Japanese Arcade, that is.
Cause let’s face it, since GTA and the rise of FPS and the likes, Arcade games such as Fighters and Lightgun genres are having a hard time.
I’d just like to add that I agree with what was said above, SF4 would rock my socks !! Please Please, Capcom ppl, wake up! :D
Now that I think about it, I remember hearing a rumor that the 3rd Strike team ended up disbanding with the director of the game declaring to never work on a Street Fighter title ever again.
Whatever the case, I wonder if Capcom still has what it takes to develop another 2D fighter after all this time. One can only hope this turns out true.
but it says “original”. doesn’t that negate the possibility of a sequel? we’re getting a new ip, kids! this is hot. then again, if by 3 years ago, they mean fighting jam, then maybe it’s not so hot. i’m keeping my fingers crossed though.
It’s prolly a new compilation of SF games, called Welcome to the future - the new game.
You will at least get a new box art :]
You all are F’ed up. This game will be entirely new and have nothing to do with Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, or that F’ing Mortal Kombat who by the way died years ago! This game will be something new! Revolutionary!

Good thing I wasn’t drinking anything while reading this or that would have been one major spit take on my monitor.
Capcom making a new fighting game franchise is really impressive news, hell Capcom making a game these days that’s not a remake or sequel of some older game is great news.
