umd-1.jpgWhile rumors swirl about the potential PSP redesign at next week's E3, one rumor we can put to bed is the PSP's continued use of the UMD format. Most people think Sony has some sort of PSP redesign planned for E3, and some of us thought they might be backing away from the UMD format towards a more digital distribution model.

However, plagued by long load times and battery issues involved with spinning the disc be dammed, Sony is sticking by the formats side for the foreseeable future.

In a recent interview with Pocketgamer.co.uk, PlayStation Portable senior marketing manager John Koller had the following to say about it,

"We'll never walk away from our base. Whether it's movies or game content, third parties have an incredible opportunity to utilize it. The future of UMD is bright"
