v5online.jpgWhile the Playstation 3 version has been out for months, Virtua Fighter 5 fans may want to pick up the Xbox 360 release too. Sega is adding in online play specifically for the Xbox 360. On Xbox Live players will be able to use their customized fighter decorated with necessary accessories like keytars. There are going to be new items in Virtua Fighter 5 for the 360 and new CPU rivals to face. Also Sega is adding in leaderboards to Dojo mode and better throw and escape training to prepare you for online fights.

In the press release Sega also confirmed what has been rumored for some time, Virtua Fighter 5 is not coming out this summer, it’s delayed until Autumn 2007. But patience pays off! Online play and new items are worth a slight delay.

Considering Virtua Tennis 3 before it had online play on the 360 but none on the PS3, this doesn’t really come off as much of a surprise.

Online play is a huge selling point for me on this latest port of Virtua Fighter 5 coming to the 360. It’s what I really wanted in the first place for a VF 5 release on a home console, essentially making up for this fighting title’s late arrival in Autumn 2007.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a 3D fighter without online capabilities in this day and age (even Soul Calibur 4 has finally adapted to this mainstream feature). Sega implementing online in Virtua Fighter 5 through Xbox Live is a natural progression for the series, although this should have been implemented in the original PS3 version in the first place.
