Sonic the Hedgehog 2 speeds to Xbox Live Arcade

sonic2.jpgThis week Sega is bringing Sonic to the Xbox 360 too by releasing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 over Xbox Live Arcade. The big addition in the Xbox Live Arcade release is online multiplayer where one person plays as Sonic and the other controls Tails. Otherwise it’s the same old Sonic with achievements for 400 Microsoft Points ($5).

I wonder how online co-op is going to work in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Sonic 2 never really offered “true” co-op, so to speak, when playing as Tails in player two you were basically restricted in terms of Sonic’s movements. If Sonic were to blaze off the screen, Tails would unfortunately be left in his dust, only to catch up when Tails eventually flies in his path. That’s going to be something interesting to try out when Sonic 2 debuts on XBLA this Wednesday.

I think they’re referring to the two player split-screen multiplayer mode, from the original game.

If there’s co-op - cause I didn’t see it mentioned - I don’t think it would be an issue, considering each player would have their own screen, when playing online.

Still beats the crappy emulated port for the Wii with no rendering or Online mode.

Oh, right. I didn’t think about that. I had a feeling the online multiplayer would revolve around the two player split-screen mode featured in the original, and only presumed Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on XBLA would have online co-op too as a added bonus because of the chosen picture of this article, with Tails swinging on a vine with Sonic glancing.

Maybe the single player mode, can still be played by two people. Hopefully…

I loved the music in the first few Sonic games.
