Now that we’ve covered one new Naruto game it’s time to move on to CyberConnect2’s latest take on the series. The Tokyo Game Show demo had a sizeable amount of characters including: Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi, Gaara, Kankuro, Neji and Lee. These characters were primarily from the previous installment of Naruto: Naultimate Accel. Instead of playing with the classics I gave newcomers Sasuke and Sai a go.
You start out each match by choosing a primary character and a support character. However, the support character isn’t restricted to an item like in the older Narultimate Hero games. The support character is a permanent ally that can be called out by pressing the R1 button. There were three support characters in this build: Naruto, Kakashi and Sakura. When you use Kakashi as a support character he runs up and does a four hit combo that ends with an upwards kunai slash. This sets you up in the position for a mid-air assault and a slam back to the ground. CyberConnect2 thought of partner spamming and to prevent it the bar has a slight recharge time.
The partner character was the biggest change to Naruto: Narultimate Accel 2 besides the new characters. In my short hands on time with Sai, I found he has some neat combos where he quickly draws birds for an aerial assault. His down, down circle attack makes him unleash tigers that travel half of the screen and one of his ougis has him draw a bunch of ink beasts to rush in for an attack.
Sasuke is a fast character who has the chidori mapped to down, down circle and a sword combo set on up, up circle. The ougi that I saw had Sasuke rush in with a sword attack. He gets ready to slice Naruto and then runs through him and in traditional anime style he holds his sword up as Naruto falls to the ground. I’m pretty sure Sasuke has the Chidori Nagashi somewhere, but I couldn’t get access to it.
