The latest update to the ESRB website has revealed four Genesis games that will undoubtedly be heading to the Virtual Console in the near future. First up is Sonic 3D Blast, an isometric platformer starring everyone's favorite blue hedgehog. Second is Ecco Jr., an easier installment of the Ecco series aimed at younger gamers. Next we have Eternal Champions, Sega's answer to both Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, although less violent than the latter. Finally there's Light Crusader, an action RPG from Treasure. And we all know that the more Treasure games the VC has, the better. The Genesis lineup on the Virtual Console is expanding pretty quickly. Now all Sega has to do is give us Pulseman here in the US!
I’m not sure that Mischief Makers will ever show up on the VC. I heard that Square-Enix (just Enix at the time) and Treasure had a falling out over the game for some reason. So it might be pretty unlikely for Square-Enix to license it for the VC.
If that’s true, then it’s certainly a shame, as I was definitely looking forward to the day where I could finally replay Mischief Makers on the Wii through the Virtual Console. Unlike like say the aforementioned Alien Solider and even Pusleman as well, I always figured MM was more of a given considering Nintendo actually published this 2D side-scroller in the United States.
I guess that would also explain why Treasure never actually developed a sequel to Mischief Makers, and really doesn’t seem to have any plans or ambitions to do so at this very moment in time. After all these years, it’s a bit of a given that they have obviously abandoned their “no sequel” policy with sequels to Gunstar and Guardian Heroes, which happened to be the main reason Treasure was even conceived in the first place from ex-Konami staff who were the brainchild behind Contra.
To break away from the usual and common mentality from other companies of developing constant sequels to popular games and instead concentrating on the development of new properties and IPs.

On the importing front of things, Alien Soldier would make a great addition to the growing list of Treasure titles on the Virtual Console, and while they’re at it, I’d love to see Mischief Makers get a second chance at life to shine in North America as well. I remember that game in particular being quite a cult hit among gamers (including myself) during its heyday on the N64 since there was nothing else quite like it on the market at the time.
