Sony pokes fun at Dragon Quest with Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida

I don’t think many people are talking about Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida, but after seeing the promotional video the public needs to know about it. First a little background, Acquire is developing the game and they are probably best remembered for creating the Tenchu games.

Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida is nothing like Tenchu. It’s more like an RPG dungeon maker with a hero that looks like he’s out of Dragon Quest, but you don’t play as the hero. You’re a menacing purple demon who has to hoodwink the hero into entering a deathtrap. You dig a path for the hero, reveal standard dungeon fodder like slimes and lure the hero with the promise of loot. The hero automatically walks into the dungeon attempts to fight through your monsters. If you kill him you win and move on to a tougher hero.

I absolutely love Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida's concept and the retro feel. Check out the official trailer to see why.

Sony plans on publishing Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida on December 6th in Japan and I hope they choose to release this in North America too.

Same here, nice concept and the likes. Refreshing, on hope someone brings it here!

WOW. Looks like a mix between Druaga and Dig Dug!

Out of all the RPGs released in Japan by SCEI for the PSP, SCEA has brought over how many? 2, I think (Jeanne d’Arc and Kingdom of Paradise). The others that made it were done by other companies. And other than KoP, which I think was a launch title (or near to it), all were a year or so after the Japanese release.

jeffx Says:

Hmm what about that KoP sequel… I forget the name but it was covered here earlier. Any plans on that one? But I’m gonna go ahead and call this one out: REJECTED by SCEA. No chance in hell.

jeffx Says:

* and by “this one” I meant Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida of course, not KOP2.

JeremyR Says:

Yeah, exactly, the KoP sequel came out a year ago in Japan, and no sign of ever coming to the US. And then there is also Rezel Cross and Wild Arms Crossfire.

A lot of 3rd parties have picked up the slack of what SCEA didn’t want to bring over, from Agetec to XSEED to Atlus, but given PSP vs Wii sales, those companies seem to be shifting away from the PSP. And with SCEA so uninterested in RPGs or PSP games, we’re probably going to be out of luck.

Aoshi00 Says:

What a cool concept, protecting the demon king by defeating the heroes :) They use the hiragana-only text just like the good ol’ NES days too :) I love the title, very funny.

Joakim Hagdahl Says:

Looks lovely I must say, a shame it feels too obscure to ever be released in Europe or the US.

I’m considering an import right now, I can learn Hiragana and look up all the words just for this… :)
