Jon, I think light gun games are not going to evolve too much, which is what makes them light gun games in the first place. Like shmups, the core gameplay is established as something that works. It's unfortunate that most outlets won't look at these "core" games for what they are. Any company developing an on-rails light gun shooter is very conscious of what they're doing, they're very deliberate. Why don't most critics get this?

I liked your article. I was disappointed with many of the other reviews that I have read on the game recently. I thought your article did the game justice. I bought the game the other day and have enjoyed it a lot. Oddly enough, I didn't finish many of those games as a kid either. It is nice to be able to go back and see the endings as well as all the extra stuff.

Just picked up my copy tonight and played the first stage, the zombies did seems a little slow compared to other rail shooters, I suppose it would get better. I wonder if the game would play better or worse w/ the zapper, since Links' crossbow isn't even out yet. I must say holding the Wii remote as a gun seems a little unnatural. Can't wait to see more of Wesker.

@Andrew

Well, difficulty, for one. I was pretty young (around 15-16) when I did the majority of my classic RE playing, and I wasn't very good at them. Then for REC:V, my Dreamcast died before I could finish it. I'm sure if I went back to the old RE games now and really sank some good time into them I could finish them.

Nice write up, I've been looking forward to this one. But, what was it about the RE games that stopped you from finishing them?
