Taito revival, the Legend of Kage 2

kage.jpgDengeki Online has a solid selection of videos from Taito’s 2007-8 line up and Kage Densetsu: The Legend of Kage 2 looks appetizing. The clip is short and most of it is spent introducing the characters with artwork stills. But the short amount of gameplay footage looks awesome for fans of retro games. The Legend of Kage 2 sticks to two dimensions, something that more and more action games are moving away from. Maybe, I’m just glad to see a new 2D side-scrolling ninja game, but I can’t wait for this to come out in February ’08.

Yet another sequel to an awesome franchise that will be handheld-only. :( I wish more developers would rather look to the downloadable game services like Wii Ware, XBL Arcade, and Playstation Network. Ah well, at least Taito got Exit up on XBLA. Regardless, Legend of Kage looks great, I just cant help but imagine how much better it could be as a console game.

@Visionnerz - Good point. The DS is just so saturated into the market it’s the optimal place for everything and anything. Perhaps, when more consoles are adopted into homes more companies are bound to develop original 2D games for XBLA, PSN and Wii Ware. Who knows we might even get an XBLA port of Legend of Kage 2. It’s not like Taito is against those kinds of things.

While I consider the original Legend of Kage to be a pretty terrible game, I’m kind of interested in the sequel. It’s just a franchise that I thought would never-in-a-million-years be resurrected.

I remember there was this game called “Fudou Myou’Oh den” on the Famicom which was the spiritual sequel fo Legend of Kage, if this is anything like that w/ good artwork, I’m elated. You know what, I can’t wait!
