More Tales, this time from Vesperia

By Spencer . December 26, 2007 . 11:45am

When Namco Bandai announced a bunch of Tales games the DS and the Wii were the only platforms getting brand new entries in the Tales universe. They were saving Tales of Vesperia for the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360. Unlike the other Tales games Namco Bandai has not announced a console for Vesperia. It could be in development for the Wii, but that seems unlikely. Wii owners have Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk to play with anyways.

The gorgeous looking video Namco Bandai unveiled at Jump Fiesta ‘08 even has a few cuts of fluid looking gameplay footage to tease us with. So, which system will Namco Bandai release this for? Will it be the first Tales game to appear on an Xbox?

Stupid Namco, how they can do a recycled assets spin-off sequel on the Wii when it’s leading and do a main installment on a HD console is beyond me (specially if it’s X360 exclusive)

I must say I’m in love w/ this recent Tales art style, and I wasn’t even a Fujishima Kousuke fan from Oh My Goddess or You’re Under Arrest. This looks too amazing in HD.

pedrocasilva Says:

^ Who’s a “Oh My Goddess” fan? I mean… I never knew anyone who suffered of that. Although there are abviously fans since that’s still on-going since 1988; don’t they grow up? (hajime no ippo I can understand, but OMG? it’s like the perfect example of one think smelling bad in the kitchen and still being dragged on and on.

The game doesn’t look nothing much, graphically for me; although miles and bounds from Knight of Ratatosk (but that’s only due to lazyness), the city’s are quite low-polygon and only the characters stand out (this said nothing I’ve never seem when it comes to cell shading quality).

Aoshi00 Says:

I only meant strictly the drawing style, I never really was a fan of Fujishima’s drawing. Or it could be due to the anime rendition by studio IG since I was a fan of Goto Takayuki (char design of Please Save My Earth, Baby & Me, Hunter x Hunter, etc). I was comparing to the previous Tales games like Symphonia or Innocence, so this looks pretty sweet to me.

Chris Says:

I hope we even get Tales of Symphonia 2, Tales of Innocence, and Tales of Vesperia considering how poorly Legendia and Abyss did in the US.

pedrocasilva Says:

@ Chris

If, ToV is on X360 exclusively then it’ll come in US, I mean, who in their right mind would do a game for X360 and keep it japan-only? Might as well go out of business, even chosing to do this for the X360, or even PS3, when they’re doing a low budget tales on the Wii is kinda nuts.

As for ToS2, it’ll get here, Nintendo ensures that; there’s quite a following, on namco US tales forums for example, went there when they unveiled Vesperiam about 90% of the people wanted it for the Wii (and still do) Nintendo is where the userbase for tales games is in the US and Europe; even if we end up buying other consoles for it.

One of the reasons I eventually bought a PS2 was precisely Abyss and Legendia, doesn’t mean I’m part of their core userbase and I’m lusting for a PS3 version.

Aoshi00 Says:

Let’s face it, it’s inevitable the developers want to bring this title to the true next gen level. Wii, while a decent system, certainly has its limitation. This is probably going to be on the 360 first and then on the PS3, like Eternal Sonata. And I’m still peeved the freeloader was disabled after the latest update, as I haven’t finished the import version of Symphonia and don’t feel like digging out the Cube…

pedrocasilva Says:

@ Aoshi00

I’ve seen nothing in the trailer that I’d say it’s impossible to do on the Wii (minus High Definition), harder, yes, but nothing impossible.

On that stance “it’s inevitable they wanted more power”… that’s also true for last gen where PS2 was crap and underpowered; and they still had to stick with it. What’s strange is when HD consoles who are selling less in Japan and in the world get more effort than the underpowered console that sure could use it.

I have nothing against Namco doing X360 games, but damn, I’m against gettint the worser deal; I’m getting a “recycled assets spin-off sequel” that seems to be paying this one for a niche market. If they’d do a Tales game with effort for me and then said “we’re gonna port it” or “we’re gonna do another one for X360/PS3, but this is not the end of our quality support” I’d be like… “ok, why not; it’s not like I’m getting the short end of the stick”… But I am; and for no good reason.

As for Freeloader, they fixed it (at least in Europe, they did), e-mail codejunkies (the freeloader manufacter) for more information, and if you bought elsewhere… some stores exchange it.
