Tecmo, Grasshoper and Nintendo team up for Fatal Frame

fframe.jpgRei ~ Tsukihami no Kamen ~ (Zero ~ Mask of the Lunar Eclipse) isn’t exactly new news. The subtitle is, but Tecmo announced they were working on a Fatal Frame game for the Wii months ago. No plot details or gameplay mechanics have been announced, but I can’t imagine a Wii version of Fatal Frame without pointing at the screen to take pictures of ghouls.

Perhaps, more notable is Nintendo is publishing the title. This isn’t the first time Nintendo has published a Tecmo game. In Europe, Nintendo of Europe brought Super Swing Golf out under the name of Pangya! Golf with Style. However, Temco is split with second party development. Nintendo is helping out with Fatal Frame while Microsoft is helping with Ninja Gaiden. Sony hasn’t snagged anything, but looking over Tecmo’s legacy franchises there isn’t much left.

hope they push some worthy graphics.

This is a day one purchase though, I wish more developers would move their numbered entries into the Wii; and wish that companies like Konami would stop whining and almost joking that Wii is not the place for these; regarding Silent Hill. (not even demanding a numbered SH, but I wish they’d respect the platform, at least)

  • I never got into the Fatal Frame series (mostly for lack of time to play games, not intentional) but after playing No More Heroes I’ll be all over this.

Apparently Suda 51 is involved in the project too, so you know its gonna be “interesting”.

I want this to be on PS3 dammit!!!! grrrrr!!

No More Heroes won me over as well despite buying Killer 7 a long time ago. I didn’t get into it the first time, but when I’m done with NMH, I want to retry it.

Fatal Frame on Wii looks promising.

I wish they would re-release FF 1-3 on the WW. They don’t even need to be Wii-makes. *I have yet to play III and can’t find it anywhere)

  • I never played the first, but I swear by the quality and fear-induciveness (it’s a word in my dictionary!) of the second and third. Find them. Play them. When you play the third, you’ll see how great the game could have looked on the 360 or PS3.

Sure, the Wii will have controls that make sense, but unless you hold up an actual camera peripheral, it’s not going to be the same, really. I just don’t see the motion control adding a lot, but a boost in graphical talent could have done wonders in an already great franchise.

Basically, I’m excited to see how this turns out, but I really want to see a Fatal Frame game utilize the power under the hood of the muscle-car consoles. So to speak. Color me Neutral when I should be Periwinkle, or Tickle Me Pink.

    @ Nick Doerr

the 4rd installment it would look better already, if it was done for GC/Xbox from the ground instead of the PS2; let alone the Wii.

If we’d go like that at every game that pushed a console… I mean “hey look at FFXII it would have looked better if it was on PS3” sure… but they need to push boundaries and I sure hope they start pushing them on the Wii, like they did for years on PS2.

    whoops, I meant 3rd.
