Square Enix aims to shorten localization times

squaree.jpgSquare Enix is attempting to cater more to Western fans these days. One of the finer examples of this tactic is The Last Remnant, the so-called "RPG for the world" which will mark Square Enix's first simultaneous worldwide game release.

Related to this strategy, the president of SE, Yoichi Wada aims to steer the company's game releases towards worldwide distribution, or at least tighten the gap between Western and Eastern release dates.  If this holds true, we can expect many more titles from SE to follow the footsteps of The Last Remnant, and many Final Fantasy fans can hope the suite of Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII games are part of this trend.

< Spencer's note: Recently, Square Enix has been pretty speedy when it comes to localization. I mean we're not getting games on day one, but titles without voice acting matriculate in English about half a year later. That's pretty good compared to the wait Europe has to endure >

Actually, Europe’s release dates are getting even tighter than the US. War of the Lions was released about 5 days prior to it’s US release, while The World Ends With You is getting an April 18th EU release, while it comes on the 22nd stateside.

Let’s hope this means they stop that asinine “release a game, then rerelease it in Japan with exclusive new content” thing (especially when they add new plot-related content, like they’ve done with Kingdom Hearts)…

that’s cool, I can take it (but not my wallet)

I wouldn’t mind a world wide release of Star Ocean 2 (PSP) this Spring. Make it happen Square-Enix.

Call me when Front Mission 5 gets a US release.

nika Says:

nice to know that they also consider europe a bit ^-^
since we often have the questionable honour of waiting half a year more (or not getting a game at all…)
