Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One Announced for the DS [Update]

By Rolando . March 13, 2008 . 2:10am

tri-Ace has been hard at work with Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4, but who seriously would have thought that Valkyrie Profile, what some would define as the pinnacle of JRPGs, would see a DS iteration and be developed by tri-Ace themselves? I didn't believe it, of course, until now. Though very little is unknown about Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One in terms of battle system, the folks at Forever Fantasy have unearthed some new information regarding the game from this month's Jump Magazine complete with small scans (viewable below).

The game's main protagonist is a young soldier named Wilfred who has nothing but contempt for the gods and the Valkyries. Upon receiving a feather from Hel, Goddess of the Underworld, Wilfred is determined to use the feather to seek revenge against the gods and the Valkyries. Ansel is a close friend of Wilfred, and Elise is a girl from the underworld who seeks to help Wilfred in his quest for vengeance. The theme of the game is "Vengeance on the Gods", and the game sports an isometric look judging from the image with Elise speaking.

I don't know what to think about the game yet. Maybe after more information leaks out about its battle system and its place in the Valkyrie Profile timeline (spinoff, sidestory) things will become clearer. For now, though, I'm curious to know exactly how tri-Ace will make full use of the DS and what kind of RPG Valkyrie Profile DS will be. Will it sport a Revenant Wings/Heroes of Mana look? Who knows!

What do you think?

SO HOT IT BURNS.

EvilAkito Says:

The fact that it uses the isometric 3D look instead of a side view leads me to fear that it’ll be a strategy RPG. And if that’s the case, I don’t care about the game in the least. But who knows? Maybe it’ll end up being something cool. I’ll remain cautiously optimistic.

So we go from PS1 > PSP > PS2 and now DS? Well Tri-Ace you’ve have confirmed it the DS is home to serious RPG offerings. I think this game maybe a spin off considering the back story we have. As far as we know each VP game focused on each armor clad maiden. Either way as a strategy game we can only hope it stays true to the source material.

Pedro Silva Says:

halleluiah! a Tri-Ace game for a Nintendo platform.

I wish Wii was next though, they’re really great at pushing such platforms.

seiya19 Says:

Great news. I haven´t played VP games before (just tried them a bit; I´ll play them eventually) but I heard good things about them and I´m glad they chose the DS for it. And I also wish that they develop something for Wii next…

mikael Says:

Aslong as tri ace develops it, it can’t go bad in a gameplay perspective as their games have had unique good gameplay most of the time

jeffx Says:

@mikaeal: To be fair, Radiata Stories’ “gameplay” wasn’t stellar. But everything else they touched did turn to gold.

nika Says:

I agree with with jeffx, the gameplay of Radiata Stories wasn’t that special. but I think I’m biased because I didn’t like the ‘humor’ in that game verry much.

so your playing with someone that tries to take revenge on the gods? interesting, I’m curious about how the story will progress. it depends a bit on the battle system if I’m going to try and pick this up.

Nelson Says:

I believe this will be a spin off of sorts BUT in defense of the Isometric view, nobody mentioned that the dungeons wouldn’t be 2D… So I’m guessing all the town areas will be overhead. Wish they’d bring out the first Star Ocean on DS as well. *hopes*
