Some new info on Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One

By Rolando . March 18, 2008 . 8:30pm

Along with the big reveal of Atlus' Persona 4, Weekly Famitsu also happened to mention some new information regarding Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One for the Nintendo DS. As originally revealed a while back, Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One will be developed by tri-Ace themselves, easing any worries anyone may have had about another developer that wasn't tri-Ace (like TOSE…) handling the game.

While the information in this week's Famitsu reveals nothing about the game's place in the Valkyrie Profile timeline, it does shed some light on the game itself. According to Weekly Famitsu (scans are viewable below via Akayuki), Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One is 50% complete and will sport an isometric look. That was kind of a given considering the image shown in the previous Jump scan that unveiled the game. What's interesting to note is that Weekly Famitsu does acknowledge this DS entry as being an Action RPG. Whether that means the game will retain the same combat formula found in the original Valkyrie Profile or a replica of the combat formula in Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria is unknown, but at least some of you can worry less about the game treading into RTS territory a la Revenant Wings.

If it's 50% complete, that means a release can't be too far off right? The game's tagline is "Destiny by sinner sought; Tragedy by power brought". Talk about cryptic!

Am I the only one not excited about this? I want to play as Lenneth!

  • Pedro Silva

you must be, it’s valkyrie profile after all.

you don’t play as a valkyrie though, neither do your characters appear to be eienjars

  • Angelous

Yes Zhemos, you are. A true Valkyrie Profile on the Ds made by Tri-Ace is a treat. We don’t know much about the game to be honest. Who’s to say you can’t play as one of the Valkyries later in the game?

  • I would actually say the first and second VP’s were action-RPGs as well. I like to say “traditional” RPGs are menu-driven, whereas stuff like Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, Radiata Stories, et cetera are “action” driven. If that doesn’t make sense, meh. If it does, then we can expect a similar battle system to the other titles. No reason for them to change what isn’t broken.

  • @ Nick

True. After what tri-Ace has done with Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria’s battle system, I’m sure they have something huge in store for Valkyrie Profile DS. Looking at the scans alone kind of gives me a VP1 battle system vibe, but we’ll see.

“…but at least some of you can worry less about the game treading into RTS territory a la Revenant Wings.”

Phew, that’s a relief. I can’t be too sure thanks to the screens being so tiny, but it looks like the combo-oriented battle system VP is known for is still in place.

  • R

I’m also glad to hear that it’s not an RTS, though that viewpoint worries me. I’m hoping it’s for battle and/or cutscenes only, because I’ve never seen isometric platforming work well.

I think it looks awesome, and im sure it will play in the same vein of valkyrie profile 2, I havent tried the first one but could you walk in many directions on that game before approaching an enemy? Im thinking this new angle is meant for so you can move freely in an open area like in valkyrie profile 2…

Got my hopes up for this game!
