“Equipment destruction” part of Soulcalibur IV

“Equipment destruction” doesn’t mean weapons can break. Namco Bandai really means visible wounds and armor shattering. When I visited Namco Bandai headquarters in Tokyo last fall there was some discussion about this after Hilde was revealed. I’m pretty sure players will be able to chip away at her armor and Siegfried’s glimmering mail. Perhaps, Darth Vader’s helmet can be removed too. Actually, that would be neat.

The strange thing about the feature is the Soulcalibur series is infamous for characters wearing next to nothing. Even clothed characters like Kilik and Taki have (visibly) fabric outfits, not hard armor like Lizardman or Asteroth.

I hope Soulcalibur IV doesn’t become Stripcalibur.

stripcalibur xD
but I see no objection against stripping Kilik, as long as long as ’some’ details are left to the imagination.

then again, stripping voldo… *shudders*

Seems like a neat concept, sort of like Valkyrie Profile 2 — break away someone’s armor at a certain point and proceed to dole out massive damage. It’d be a strange balancing issue for characters, but who knows. Thanks for the info!
