Rock Revolution only bundled with drums, may have Bemani songs

Guitar Hero peripherals were used to showcase Rock Revolution (again) because there isn’t a custom Konami guitar. While Rock Revolution won’t come with a Guitar Freaks controller, Konami’s music game is compatible with the current guitars on the market. Rock Revolution’s focus is primarily on the drum kit which will be sold at the same time as game. I tried playing “All the Small Things”, one of the easier songs in Rock Revolution, and the drums work as they should. However, Rock Revolution doesn’t feel like it’s any different from the other, established rock game on the market. Being more difficult to play doesn’t sound like a strong selling point.

Konami may have missed the boat with the Rock Band, but they already have the Bemani brand and more importantly Bemani fans. I asked if there were any plans to sell Guitar Freaks or DrumMania songs as downloadable content and they are considering it.

I doubt that Konami has the bemani fans with this game. it feels like Konami Japan has been handcuffing the development of this game the entire time. The development team in America is partially to blame for not working with the its more loyal fans AT ALL.

and this lawsuit business shines a negative light on everyone.

Their *only* chance for success with this game is by including a lot of Bemani songs on the game disc, or at least as downloads. No one is going to buy this game otherwise. Certainly no one in the current Rock Band/Guitar Hero market is going to buy it. It’s the laughing stock of that crowd. Their best bet would be to not pay license fees for any popular artists, and instead go entirely Bemani. Their costs would be lower and they’d at least then pick up sales to Bemani fans, and they are out there. They could establish it as a niche product and be successful with it. I might be interested in the game if they went that route. If it’s filled with popular rock and metal bands, I definitely won’t be picking it up. I doubt I’d buy the drum kit either way. Drum kits take up too much space and I already have a Rock Band kit.
