Sheva Alomar is the support character who will be joining Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5 when the title is released in March of 2009. Little is known about Sheva at this point, apart from the fact that she is a member of the BSAA, an organization that seeks out and eliminates bioterror threats around the world. Chris has joined the organization since the events of the tragedy of Raccoon City in the original Resident Evil, and will rely on his partner's fighting prowess as the two investigate a deadly incident in the town of Kijuju, Africa. Sheva is playable as a co-op partner in the online multiplayer version of Resident Evil 5, a unique gameplay addition to the series.
At E3, Capcom's Jason Allen offered some details on Sheva's role in the new game. Because an enormous number of enemies will be on the screen at one time, the player will need the character's support to survive. Protecting her need not be a first priority, and in fact, Sheva will automatically supply ammo and health packs in a pinch, though not an endless supply. She can save you in a tight spot, but will also need you to provide her with cover fire at times. If Sheva is killed in battle, it’s game over, so the addition of her support offers gameplay advantages and added challenges both.
In one of the demos on display at E3, you view Sheva leaping across a rooftop, while you cannot make the jump. Your partner is then surrounded by enemies that she cannot overpower herself. Seeing enemies attacking from your vantage point on the rooftop, you have to shoot. Luckily, there is no friendly fire in the game, so the player can let loose with a barrage of bullets. Sheva can also acquire items on the field that you yourself might not be in a position to pick up, making her a self-sufficient partner. She can be described as being as aggressive as the situation demands.
