The E3 party everyone missed

Other E3 parties had free beer and free swag, but did they have an R&B cover of the password screen from Faxanadu?  Level Up! Level 2! took place the day before the Business Summit at the nearby California Institute of Abnormalities in North Hollywood.  The second anniversary celebration of GameMusic4All showcased the talents of four videogame and chiptune-inspired bands: Hot Waffles, The Megas, ZeaLous1 and the Super Barrio Brothers.

The set by the Megas, seen above with the blue electric guitars, was a rocking auditory tour of Mega Man 2.  Each of the songs on their album "Get Equipped" is set to different stage music from the game, replete with lyrics that probe the inner lives of the NES sidescroller's android hero and foes.  (When the band last appeared on Into the Score they were contemplating taking on Mega Man 3.)  They ended with "The Annihilation of Monsteropolis," a poignant take on the staff roll theme that depicts a pained Blue Bomber questioning whether a robot built for destruction can ever find redemption.

Later on in the show, when a microphone malfunctioned and had to be replaced, ZeaLouS1 filled the time by freestyle rapping tunes from Super Mario Bros.  Afterward, he and 'Lil HARMz sang a mesmerizing new number to the melody of Jun "Chiki" Chikuma's Faxanadu with chiptune accompaniment.  For some surreptitiously recorded slices of the E3 party everyone missed (and missed out on), take a look at the YouTube videos tagged Level Up! Level 2!, beginning with the two found below.

Cheers to Anthony and GM4A for organizing the show
