Sorry, no Ys or Samurai Shodown 2 this week

By Spencer . August 4, 2008 . 7:35am

sonic.jpgAfter seemingly official announcements from SNK and Hudson on Friday it sure sounded like Samurai Shodown 2 and Ys Books I & II would be this week’s Virtual Console games. Actually, even Hudson still thinks this is the case. Instead of body slamming monsters with Adol you get to play Sonic the Hedgehog… again. Nintendo released the Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog for 500 Wii Points ($5) and Splatterhouse 2 for 800 Wii Points ($8). I’m lowering my Virtual Console expectations from now on.

On the plus side this WiiWare game is a light gun game. As the title suggests, Wild West Guns is set in the Wild West with probably fewer mechanical spiders that a certain movie starring Will Smith. Wild West Guns costs 1,000 Wii Points.

You guys in the media really need to get to the bottom of this stuff with some serious investigations. NOA is horribly mismanaging the VC and no one seems to care.

In Japan they have a list every month and no surprises yet in NA games seem to be pulled out of a hat at the last minute and in spite of publisher announcements/confirmations. The difference is like night and day. Why is this? Why do NA gamers get screwed like this?

Master System version of Sonic? All I can think to say is, WTF!?!? Why bother?

What’s next Nintendo? The NES version of Bonk’s Adventure?

Why am I not surprised? The Wii is the all time king of not living up to its potential, and the Virtual Console especially is setting new records for disappointments.

Wow. What are the chances of three companies messing up on their release dates? It’s almost like Nintendo’s punishing them for releasing the info before they did. >_>.

    It’s official – Nintendo doesn’t care anymore.

Personally, I like the fact that alternative versions of games get released on the VC.

For example, I prefer the NES version of Battletoads & Double Dragon to the SNES one, or the Ninja Gaiden NES versions to Trilogy for SNES. I think it´s great that we get the alternatives.

Besides that, I agree that the VC management hasn´t been the best… I think a better job could be done by alternating more popular games with less popular ones, based on what´s available. I don´t know which criteria they follow though…
