North America gets Chrono Trigger first, but Japan gets it with a soundtrack sampler

ctriggers.jpgSquare Enix set a firm release date for Chrono Trigger in Japan. You can skip importing it since Chrono Trigger will come out on November 27 in Japan, two days after it is released in North America on November 25. Since Japan gets games on Thursdays and North America gets games on Tuesdays this is a near simultaneous release.

The only reason you might want to import is for the pre-order bonus. Reserve Chrono Trigger and you get a two track Chrono Trigger Orchestra: Extra Soundtracks audio CD. The first track is Chrono Trigger: Orchestra Version. The second song is Chrono Trigger -Medley- Orchestra version, a compilation of: a Premonition, Guardia Millennial Fair, Wind Scene Frog's Theme, Magus Battle, Epilogue – To Good Friends, and To Far a Way Time. As of this writing this bonus is only for Japan and Square Enix has not announced if the re-release of Chrono Trigger will have a similar or any pre-order bonus in other regions.

Would be nice to get this soundtrack one way or another, but not necessary a game breaking deal

I doubt Europe will be getting it either so won`t be waiting for that version…

What do North American publishers have against soundtracks?

  • Joanna

exactly. more NA publishers should include soundtracks and extras like they do in Japan. It’s just NOT fair, especially because SE is pricing Chrono at 40, so adding 2 bonus soundtracks would make it an even more worthwhile purchase.
