Beyond Echoes Of Time Square Enix May Have More Crystal Chronicles For Us

By Spencer . October 3, 2008 . 9:45am

ffcca We j-u-s-t learned about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time which has the nifty feature of linking Wii and DS owners on the same server. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time sprung out of nowhere and Japan gets it next January.

Square Enix might just have another surprise for fans of the action oriented Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series. Last week they registered Crystal Defenders in the US Patent Trademark database. This is unrelated to Echoes of Time since they registered that in North America back in July. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Defenders has a nice ring to it, but this trademark could also be used for Crystal Guardians W1, a Final Fantasy Tactics Advance themed tower defense game for mobile phones. Maybe Square Enix plans to use the Crystal Guardians trademark for a WiiWare or Nintendo DS version of Crystal Guardians. No one knows except Square Enix for now.

Honestly after the debacle that was the recent DS iteration (the controls killed it for me) this will need a lot more than Wii-DS interaction to pique my curiosity.

  • Couldn’t Crystal Defenders be the final name for Crystal Bearers? That seems a lot more likely.

Also, that “nifty” feature isn’t quite so nifty, because apparently, all it does is put two little DS screens on your TV. ;)

I hope it’s Crystal Bearers. It’s one of the most antecipated games for Wii, has been in development for a long time, and no news have been given since… 2006?
I want quality software on the Wii. The DS has been gatting awesome games from SE, and the Wii only got FFCC:MLaaK. The rest of SE support on the Wii is laughable.

I doubt Crystal Defenders is for Crystal Bearers since Square Enix trademarked that years ago with artwork.

so now the Wii gets NDS games from nomura-enix? ridiculous.

  • Wow. Nomura-Enix just about sums it up perfectly.

Really, aside from all the Nomura projects, what else is Square working on that’s impressive?
