Metal Slug 7, Space Invaders Extreme, And The First DS To Xbox Live Arcade Ports

By Spencer . October 9, 2008 . 9:15am

ms7 Microsoft shared a small list of Xbox Live Arcade titles developed in Japan and I couldn’t believe Metal Slug 7 is on there written in plain English. Hmm… I wonder if Microsoft will keep the Cynthia dating scenes. The mission mode will be in there…

Taito is jumping on the Xbox Live Arcade ship with Space Invaders Extreme, a revised version of the sensory stimulating handheld game, and Arkanoid Live! which has 120 stages to play on. Didn’t Taito just release a Nintendo DS Arkanoid remake too?

R-Type Dimensions is merely a remake of R-Type I and II with 3D graphics and online play over Xbox Live. Purists can opt for the original graphics which Irem is leaving in.  Other games discussed were King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, Meteos Wars, and Shadow Assault: Tenchu which should have just came out in Japan.

    Digital Eclipse is handling the Taito ports btw. Sort of dampened my enthusiasm when i found out. :/

    Metal Slug 7 is awesome though, now I’m glad SNK USA is dragging their feet so I don’t have to buy twice. R-Type looks seriously amazing too, but I’m having trouble digging up anything on the developer (Tozai) other than they also did Lode Runner XBLA, held rights over the VC release of Spelunker, are based in the US and used to be a consulting firm(?!). Are they affiliated with IREM?

    the r-type collection is the only ps1 game i bought from the US psn. now, i am tempted to buy it yet again.

    I was very upset about Metal Slug 7 going portable but I got over it. What I could not get over once I got the games in my hands is the lack of a 2 player mode. Hopefully this huge oversight is corrected in the XBLA version. It just doesn’t seem right having Metal Slug with no co-op play. Like grilled cheese without the bread.

    why can’t they support wiiware as well?

    @lostinblue

    Maybe the 40MB limit? How big is the DS ROM again?

    Honestly, Wiiware seems to be getting the bulk of JP developer from about everyone but SNK (and IREM) so far…
