Let’s Compare Guest Characters In Alternate Versions Of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne

By Spencer . November 4, 2008 . 1:51pm

So, another version of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne came out in Japan with Raidou replacing Dante as the guest character. Are you missing out on anything special? We’ll find out by looking at two videos where the silent protagonist from Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne meets a crossover character at the Mantra Building. Here’s what happens when Demi-fiend runs into Dante.

Here is the same event in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Manaix Chronicle Edition.

Raidou and Dante pretty much use the same moves, but the story bits are different. There is some localization work to be done, but Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Manaix Chronicle Edition probably doesn’t have a lot of localization work. You know Atlus has started re-releasing games as Greatest Hits in North America. Making this version of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne a Greatest Hits game would be a profitable way to get new Megaten fans from the Persona wave to check out Nocturne and satiate their devoted fanbase.

Would totally re-buy this game. Just because.

I would re-buy this game if they fixed the stupid battle loading times. I still love the game, but I have not re-played the game in a long time because of that.

Are there any new demons to use? Or just Raido?

  • Spencer

@ryne11 – Great question. I’ve been searching around for more videos to see if there are any differences, but I haven’t seen any yet. SMT III: Nocturne Manaix is pretty rare in Japan so for the region just getting the remixed version is special.

From what I gather on the Atlus forums, it’s the exact same thing we got except Raidou replaces Dante.

@ Tom I have the solution of your problems, a Fat PS2+HDD.

That’s how I got rid of Tales of the Abyss 10 second loadings after battles in the world map.

This game… I’d be tempted to pick it, but… first, the Greatest Hit label doesn’t exactly seduce me, and seems like they wanted to do a reprint and Capcom forbid them of using Dante or something (probably they just wanted to throw Raidou in, BUT…) seems like too little was done in order to justify a repurchase.

I’d totally cave in if they added real and extense voice acting or 16:9, or 480p, or something.
