A Countdown For Bahamut

By Spencer . November 12, 2008 . 8:40am

Square Enix opened a site teasing a new Bahamut game with a countdown. Set your watches, it’s going to be five days until we get some concrete information about the mystery title. However, we know a little bit about the game already. This unnamed project is almost certainly related to the Blood of Bahamut trademark we discovered back in September.

Something else curious is the icon for the website. The art style seems to match the sprite artwork for the characters from the only in Japan Super Famicom game Bahamut Lagoon. Could this be a Bahamut Lagoon remake or a continuation of the series? It’s a possibility. Take a glance at this awesome piece of concept art while we’re waiting to find out.

This had better not be another DS RPG, I sware I see one more of those and I am going to vomit. Who the heck can play their DS for 40 hours anyway, I would need coke bottle glasses by the end of this hardware generation.

I play my DS a LOT, but I agree…40 hours for a generic turn-based RPG is pushing it. I hope to God this is on Wii, but I highly doubt it will be.

I’m betting on DS or PSP.

yeah! another rpg! nds or psp? i’ll take either one. the more nds/psp rpgs the better. (those are the only two devices i own.)

all the next-gen consoles suck! (wii/ps3/xb360) there’s nothing good to play on any of them.

Judging by that icon, the platform will be either DS either mobile phones.

Also, judging by the noseless character from the icon, i’d say the character designer for Blood of Bahamut is probably Akihiko Yoshida.

I love a good RPG, regardless of what system it’s on, and Square-Enix tends to put out good RPGs. The DS is especially well-suited for good classic-style console RPGs. I agree that the sprite icon makes it look like it’ll end up on something like the DS.

It’s been confirmed DS. It’s in this week’s JUMP.

That giant golem castle mountain thing looks wicked. If the graphics are sprites, I think (90% sure) this will go to the DS. Hey, I’m not complaining. I love my DS, wickedly awesome system.

Now hopefully this isn’t yet another remake. I’m really getting sick and tired of these, Squeenix. :/

I hope this is for the PSP and not the DS.

It’s for the DS. Which shouldn’t surprise anyone, since the hint was in the site (i’m talking about the sprite icon).

The game’s title and the fact that the sprite icon resembles the sprites of Bahamut’s Lagoon, might indicate that Blood of Bahamut is a sequel or at least takes part in the same universe.

The original was a SRPG, it would be good to see a plot focused entry on any handheld. Might just be another remake though.

There were floating islands in the original, but no giants with cities on their shoulders. If it’s connected to Bahamut’s Lagoon, it can’t be a remake.
