Sumo Digital Developing Outrun Online Arcade

Sumo Digital Developing Outrun Online Arcade images The OFLC rumor we discovered was right on the money. Sega is working on a new Outrun game and Sumo Digital, the studio that did Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is behind it. Outrun Online Arcade will arrive as an Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network digital download early next year.

As the name of the game suggests, online play is a key part of Outrun Online Arcade. Up to six players can race online on one of fifteen Outrun courses. Test your skills with Outrun, Heart Attack, and Time Attack modes. Wait a minute… this sounds similar to Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast which doesn’t work online anymore. Is Sumo Digital tweaking the Xbox game and giving it a fresh coat of paint?

Well, if they are at least Outrun Online Arcade supports the latest hardware with features like trophies/achievements for digital collectors, and voice chat for mid-race trash talking.

    If it is a rerelease, I wouldn't mind actually. I got the PSP version so I'll be happy to get this as a console version. 2006 C2C was really fun.

    That's pretty dope

    Well 2006 was a port of the second version of Outrun 2 in arcades that ran on the old Chihiro board. That version was Outrun 2 SP. There was a third version of the game that ran on the more current Lindburg board called Outrun 2 SP DX/SDX. Hopefully this is a port of that version since we never got a home version of it. I can't tell from these tiny screen shots. Lets hope.

    From the video it looks like a direct Coast2Coast port.

    Kinda surprised we didn't just get an Xbox Originals release actually?

    @jarrod

    If so that is a deal breaker for me. Outrun 2 SP DX/SDX is more than capable of being ran on the 360/PS3 and I already own Coast2Coast. I was actually hoping for that since I have never seen one in an arcade. I can say however that Coast2Coast and Outrun 2 are very buggy running emulated on the 360 so a port would be far more worth $15 than an Xbox Original.
