Sweet! We have more Final Fantasy XIII screens to stare at. Oh, wait not all of these are new. I’m sure I’ve seen some of them before, but I’m at the point where I’ve seen so many rendered Final Fantasy XIII screenshots I can barely tell new from old. In either case here are more pretty pictures. Now, on to the characters! Meet…

I think they meant it’s refreshing in that Snow looks like…hmm, well, a guy who is not so pretty boy-ish. Cloud, Squall and every other Nomura design (for younger male characters) are all pretty boy looking. I personally don’t hate it and don’t knock the anime hair that guys do in real life (because I do it myself) but, Snow’s simple, more manly and less feminine design is just different compared to Noct’s design. It’s not an extreme masculine design like say, Kratos from God of War. A typical western male design happens to be quite beefy. A typical Eastern design is more effeminate. Snow is neither too beefed up nor anywhere near effeminate (in looks, anyway).

I think other examples could be say, Dante in DMC3. 19 years old but has a slight pretty boy look to him. Jump forward to DMC4 where he’s in his 40′s and he looks like a cool man. Maybe it’s the facial hair! Basically the point is the design of Snow isn’t femine, he doesn’t have a typical slender body (nor too beefy), he doesn’t have hair that would take nearly an hour to do. He’s what most would call a typical manly looking design. Cloud (again for example’s sake) is far from that. Once again, I’m not hating on Cloud’s kind of design since a lot of straight, non emo guys do do their hair and dress sharp and have slightly femenine features.
