Monster Hunter Tri Goes Head To Head With Dragon Quest IX

At a Monster Hunter event Capcom announced when the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Tri would be in stores. Just like Dragon Quest IX it’s slated for a summer release in Japan. Wow! Two of Japan’s biggest franchises are going to pop into stores close together unless Capcom changes their plans in wake of the Dragon Quest IX delay that Square Enix announced earlier today.

Hmm… I wonder how this news will affect the sales of Monster Hunter G, a PlayStation 2 to Wii port, which preludes Monster Hunter Tri a few months with a release on April 23.

It’d be epic if they went head to head. I was kinda hoping we’d get MH3 vs FFXIII at the end of the year though, that’d be a more even match…

Head-to-head or not, Nintendo will be the big winner as they’ll sell so many more DSi/lite and Wii systems just from those two games.

Yeah, this can only be a good for Nintendo, especially as both their platforms seem to be lagging a bit in Japan.

I kind of wonder if Capcom will have MH3 ready for western release by year’s end then too?

  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is coming out a month before these two along with that custom DSi, too. I fully expect Birth by Sleep to sell better though. They’re pitching that one as story-focused (in a progressive way) while 358/2 Days sounds more like a multiplayer sort of affair.

Then again, local multiplayer seems to work wonders for a game in Japan…
