Soak In Sprites, See Some King Of Fighters XII Screens

Street Fighter IV went 3D while SNK stuck with slick sprites for the King of Fighters XII. A good decision on SNK’s part since we already saw 3D SNK fighters in the King of Fighters: Maximum Impact series. The downside about the new hand drawn sprites is SNK can’t reuse their old work and the King of Fighters XII will have less characters when it arrives in Japanese arcades in April. The roster rounds off at twenty fighters, way less than King of Fighters XI. I guess that’s OK because King of Fighters XIII and shoving fan favorite character Mai Shiranui in the home conversion seems inevitable.

HOT! Yet another good reason to get a stick/fightpad.
I’m glad Ignition Enterteinment has the rights for SNK’s titles in Europe :3

the game looks awesome but the only sprite i didnt like was athena. she looks a little too cartoony compared to the other characters.

Damn, whats with Andy “Forehead” Bogard?

I’m honestly not digging this game’s puny roster…

    Athena looks like she’s 12.

Anyway, I certainly dig the new character sprites, but the small roster is rather disappointing. In all fairness though, I would typically only pick out a small handful of characters that I like to use and just ignore the rest.

I sure hope that they do a console port for the Wii and not make it the typical PS3/360-only affair, that way misers like me can still play it.

From what I’ve been told, KoFXII actually uses 3D models as well; however, they’ve been painted over using a cel-shading technique that mimics the look of 2D sprites. It’s easier to see this in video though.

Its been the trend for CAP and SNK to announce something awesome only to release a POS. This game looks great ( Terry + Power Charge = joy), I just hope its doesn’t end up a turd like SF4 did.
