Will You Give Jake Hunter A Second Chance?

Aksys is working on a “new” Jake Hunter game. By “new” we mean an expanded and remixed version of Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles. Jake Hunter Detective Chronicles: Memories of the Past, as Siliconera commenter Nekobo brought to our attention (thanks!!), is the first Tantei Jinguuji Saburo game for the Nintendo DS.

Jake Hunter Detective Chronicles: Memories of the Past has six episodes and five comic Jake Hunter Unleashed side stories. This number includes the original three episodes Aksys released on the Nintendo DS last year with a revised script. We asked Aksys about it. “The new localization is probably more comedic, contains definitely more dry, sarcastic sense of humor,” Harry Chang, Assistant Marketing Manager at Aksys Games, explains.

Compared to the previous localization it sounds like Memories of the Past is going to be more lighthearted and less hard boiled. The Jake Hunter Unleashed episodes are also playable, Harry tells us they are quite the challenge, and this Jake Hunter game has one episode made specifically for the Nintendo DS. Aksys also has a surprise for anyone who was a fan of the first game. Developer interviews and extra short stories, stuff you would usually find as DVD extras, are stored on the cart.

Jake Hunter didn’t get a warm reception here, but given Aksys’ new direction for the series are you willing to give him a second chance?

I would but… why didn’t they just do it right the first time?

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

      Agreed

  • MisterNiwa

O_O This looks like a horrible Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban fake!

    NOPE YOU FAIL JAKE.

    • Trickless

Um… The series first started back in 1987 for the Famicom Disk System.

The DS games are remakes of the past games, along with some additional new stories.

    • Constraint

Uh, no sir, you fail. The Jake Hunter series started out way back for the NES.
      O_O NO YOU FAIL MISTERNIWA.
      Frggin fanboy..

      • MisterNiwa

O_O, PHOENIX WRIGHT IS A NINTENDO GAME TO BEGIN WITH AND WHEN JAKE HUNTER WAS A FAMICOM DISK SYSTEM GAME ITS STILL NINTENDO!?

SO WHERE IS HERE THE FANBOYISM!?

        I GUESS I FAILED.

BUT IT JUST LOOKS TO MUCH LIKE PHOENIX WRIGHT, AND I DONT THINK IT LOOKED LIKE THIS ON THE FAMICOM DISC SYSTEM TOO!

No, seriously, was was fanboyism in my comment!?

        Frggin Fanboy…

        • Constraint

and how am I a fanboy?
and SERIOUSLY, Phoenix Wright was made by capcom, you idiot. As for Jake Hunter, nintendo didn’t make that aswell. It was that they were in nintendo game systems.

Learn the difference between Publisher, Developer, and especially game systems.

          • MisterNiwa

With Nintendo Game i meant its on the Nintendo so its a Nintendo Game! Sure made by Capcom.

That “frggin fanboy” was just to copy u lol. But u cant say that Jake Hunter doesnt look like Phoenix Wright. =/
You could make a Super Mario Remake and let it look like Megaman it still would be a copy!

            Meh Meh Meh Meh Meh.

Where was the Fanboyism in my comment again? B(

We don’t tolerate this shit on siliconera. Cool it. Constraint you might have been right in the first place, but there was no need to rub it in the other guy’s face. Mister Garden, you need to calm down.

The problem with the first localization is that they released an incomplete game, taking only three of the five EXTRA episodes, I mean, they took the main story out of the game!

I still don’t understand why they decided to do that, but at least we’re getting the full game now. I’m going to give at a second chance since the extra episodes weren’t that bad and the main episode should be more interesting.

  • Roto13

I like this kind of game so I might check it out if the reviews are good. I was interested in the last one until I read that it was such a mess.

  • Nekobo

Sure, if they punch up the writing. I liked the hard boiled detective vibe, but the dialogue was really bland…especially after playing Apollo Justice.

Any word if this will be budget priced like last year’s version?

  • Anon

That’s very interesting that Aksys is doing this. On one hand, they should have done this in the first place. But alternatively, it’s good to see a company seeing that they made a mistake and correcting it.
It’s just too bad that we’ll have to pay for the game twice just to get the full experience.

But I’ll still pick it up. More adventure games in North America is always a good thing, and hopefully this will help the series get a second chance to make a good impression.

I really want the new Jake Hunter game for the DS, the one that was specifically designed for the system. So it’s important for that this rerelease wins back people that were turned off by the bland translation and ridiculous amount of editing in the first version.

  • Joanna

hmmm, the jury is still out on this one. I’m willing to give it a chance provided its 29.99 or less and the reviews aren’t as bad as the first one.

  • Mazen

The sad the first one sold good according to Amazon top list and people got burned they were thinking of a game at least tenth as good as the famous Phoenix Wright I think,
Aksys you lost a good chance. I don’t think this will sell good.
