A Sign That Some Of Nintendo’s New Series Could Travel Overseas

By Spencer . March 25, 2009 . 3:59am

A Sign That Some Of Nintendos New Series Could Travel Overseas Last October Nintendo of Japan held a press conference where a slew of first party Wii games not from their core franchises were unveiled. Few of these games were shown in the US press conference which led to concern that Nintendo’s international branches might pass on them.

Now, it looks like Nintendo is planning on localizing some of their untested IPs overseas. A bunch of Nintendo registered trademarks appeared in the European trademark database. Sin & Punishment, Another Code, and Nintendo DSi Sound are things we know Europe will get.

Line Attack Heroes, Cosmic Walker, Friend Connection (DS), and Spaaan Smasher were games on the uncertain list. A trademark by no means guarantees were going to be Spaaan smashing in the future, but registering a name overseas shows Nintendo is, at the very least, contemplating about publishing these games. Perhaps, these titles will be mentioned in Nintendo President Satoru Iwata’s keynote speech.

Here’s a little bit about each of them.

Cosmic Walker takes place on a space station and the screenshots show you’re equipped with a gun. Gaia, the studio headed by Koji Okada (Megami Tensei developer) and team behind Monster Kingdom: Jewel Summoner, is making this game.

In Spaaan Smasher (aka Spawn Smasher) you play as the grinning orange ball and smash into objects. Looks like a mix between a 2D platformer and pinball. Artoon is developing this game.

Line Attack Heroes has players use a line of followers as a weapon.

Friend Connection (aka Tomodachi Connection) is a Nintendo DS game with Miis of Nintendo executives like Shigeru Miyamoto (he sings in the game), Reggie Fils-Aime, and Satoru Iwata as the main characters. Nintendo is developing this game internally.

All look interesting, but honestly I’d have rather gotten Card Hero and Soma Bringer. :(

I would rather get ASH or soma bringer instead as well :(
(but I’m a huge strategy and RPG junkie, so my preference reflects that bias)
