Infinite Space Blasts Off In June

By Spencer . March 30, 2009 . 7:49am

image Japan will get their first game from PlatinumGames on June 11. No, it won’t be bloody MadWorld. Sega is only releasing that in the West for now. Infinite Space will be PlatinumGames’ first domestic release.

Nude Maker, the studio behind Steel Battalion, is developing the space opera RPG where you pilot and create a fleet of spaceships from 150 blueprints. Yuri, the protagonist, starts as a crew member and moves up the ranks to captain, eventually recruiting crewmen for his fleet. Hone your combat skills in story mode  and then challenge a friend to a local wireless spaceship duel.

Infinite Space is scheduled for an international release, but Sega USA has not set a specific date. They are localizing a handful of RPGs for the Nintendo DS like Phantasy Star 0 and Sands of Destruction so Infinite Space might not land here until next year.

I’m afraid I don’t actually understand what this article is announcing. Is Infinite Space coming to North America or not?

    • Really? Please read that last paragraph again.

  • Moogles

Is the dude on the top screen always gonna be staring at us? Kinda creepy not gonna lie

  • Reluctant Hero

I really can’t wait for this one. But only local Wi-Fi and no Nintendo Wi-Fo connection? Weak. Local play may fly in Japan, but not in the U.S. and possibly other territories.

  • I had this pre-ordered back in January when it was slated for a March release, then GameStop pushed it into July. I’m fairly sure we can expect that date to change, as Spencer suggested, to probably next year. MAYBE late this year, but I doubt it and I don’t mind. My DS (DSi in a week) is saturated enough.

Anyway, definitely looking forward to more news on this game. I love space operas. Crest/Banner of the Stars I&II are still probably the greatest, like, ever.

OMG, this is awesome. Nothing wrong with fantasy RPGs, but I’m ready for a space opera!

  • EvilAkito

So, does anyone know how this game actually plays? All the screen shots I’ve seen show nothing but story sequences and confusing menus. I almost thought it was going to be more of a text-adventure game, but now there is talk of competitive multiplayer. I’m confused.

I have great hopes for this, come on be super amazing.
