From Software Floods PSP With PS2 Ports

image A large library of downloadable game archives in Japan eliminates the need for PsOne ports. PlayStation 2 ports are the new black, according to From Software.

The Tenchu license holder plans to port six PlayStation 2 games to PSP in the next twelve months. Tenchu 3 Portable (aka Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven) has some new features like the a sheet that looks like a wall and the ability to drag bodies. It’s been awhile since I played it, but I believe the latter feature was added into the Xbox port Tenchu: Return From Darkness.

From Software played with porting down games with the release of Tenchu: Shadow Assassins which was announced as a Wii game and later ported to the PSP.

Here’s the list of From Software ports which includes a game not developed by them! Genki, creators of the Kengo series, are the original developers of Fu-un Shinsengumi.

Armored Core 3 Portable – July 30
Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven Portable – August
Armored Core Silent Line Portable – November
Fu-un Shinsengumi Portable – December
Tenchu: Kurenai Portable (aka Tenchu: Fatal Shadows) – January 2010
Armored Core Last Raven Portable – March 2010

Each PS2 port will be sold for 3,990 yen ($40), a slight cut below the cost of average PSP game in Japan.

In before the Playstation PORTable jokes.

Are they in some kind of financial trouble? :(

So many AC games… I don’t know whether I should be glad or not.

Why’s it hard to port up to Wii?

Is it because Wiimote controls are forced? Or the ability to use the Wii mote is forced, motion or not? Isn’t that why MHG isn’t coming over, because it only uses the Classic Controller?

Didn’t the Wii and PSP versions of Tenchu 4 sell around the same amount?

I wouldn’t want PS2 ports on the Wii to become common fashion (oh, silly me, they already did)

I only think those are acceptable if the product is awesome (which PS2 tenchu’s weren’t) or if it comes in preparation for a newer installment on the Wii. Other than that it’s pushing it too far in my book.

Right, I forgot Acquire didn’t develop the PS2 Tenchu games.

But the Armoured Core games are supposed to be very good.

Still, as budget releases, they would be a neat addition, especially as none were on a Nintendo console before. :P

I wish FS would unveil that ARPG for the Wii they were said to be making.
