Metal Gear Solid Spotted On The PlayStation Store

By Spencer . June 18, 2009 . 2:46pm

image Konami’s PsOne classic, Metal Gear Solid, is now available as a downloadable game in North America. If you have a PlayStation 3 or PSP you can pick it up for $9.99.

Playing Metal Gear Solid on the go? Sounds great! Wait a second… how would the fight with Psycho Mantis work (spoiler alert!) without a second controller? Also, will the game be able to notice a PlayStation Archives Suikoden save file?

I don’t really like MGS. I recently started it, but stopped after only 5 hours. I mean, the story and characters were great, but I found the gameplay to be simply boring. I just couldn’t keep playing. That’s too bad, because I really wanted to see what happened.

Maybe someday I’ll force myself to at least finish it. No way I’m starting the second one, though.

Still, if I knew it was coming on PSN, I would’ve saved a tenner. Oh well.

I’d buy this if I didn’t already own the PSX and GC versions of MGS already. I’m not really sure how you’ll beat Psycho Mantis without a second controller port and I doubt there were any changes to the game, so maybe you’re stuck?

You can assign controllers during PSX playback on the PSP… so that wouldn’t be an issue whatsoever.

I actually got MGS from the Jpn PS store , I played it to get myself ready for MGS4 last year, but it was so long ago I don’t remember how they pulled off the mantis fight. There are several control schemes to choose from, so it works okay w/ one analog stick. $9.99 is a little expensive though since the Jpn counterpart is only 600 yen.

I wouldn’t think Mantis would recognize Konami save files on the PSP, as I think the PSP creates two entire memory cards dedicated to each game, and then just create one file for each card.

However, it should work on the PS3, since you can create virtual memory cards there and have them function like a normal card (unlike the PSP).

That’s weird, when I go to the PS store, I don’t see Metal Gear Solid anywhere.
