The Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden Has A Four Player Mode

image The official site for The Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden reveals the upcoming DS RPG has a four player mode. Unfortunately, Square Enix is keeping it under wraps.

Matrix Software, the developer of the Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV remakes, is also making The Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden. Other familiar staff members from the DS remakes include Tomoya Asano and Takashi Tokita, one of the original staff members of Final Fantasy IV — for the Super Nintendo. Tokita says this game is a “classic fantasy RPG with today’s technology.”

The Four Warriors of Light: Final Fantasy Gaiden comes out in Japan this fall. Square Enix has not announced any plans to publish this overseas, but if they do I imagine the name will be something like Final Fantasy Gaiden: The Four Light Warriors or something like that.

Love the artstyle. It really does look like a (crude) 3D Seventh Dragon.

I agree. The first screenshots I thought might have fooled me, but it looks neat.

    Two observations:

    1. Matrix Software working on this means no FF V remake :(
    2. This seems like a reboot of the first FF. Not a remake, but a reboot (just like this year’s Star Trek movie was meant as a reboot to that franchise). I’m curious as to what direction it’ll be heading…

This does in no way mean “no FF V remake :(“. Did Avalon Code mean no Winds of Nostalgio? Both were even released in the same month.

FF5 and this might share the same engine, both titles might be heavily backed by SE with manpower. The remakes III and IV sold several hundred thousand copies each (with FFIII even exceeding 1 million sold) in JP, which would give SE an good incentive to support Matrix.

I didn’t mean no FF V remake ever. I meant no FF V remake in the near future.

Even if you are correct and Matrix would actually be working on both FF1 Gaiden and FF V remake, do you really think SE would release them both around the same time?
Anyway, after FF 1 Gaiden, there’s always the possibility of FF V and FF VI remakes.

  • I really thought it was going to be Seiken Densetsu or Romancing Saga. Interesting indeed. I like the style so far.
