A Glance At Nier Gestalt

By Spencer . September 10, 2009 . 9:08am

image Square Enix officially announced Nier Gestalt for Japan and like Famitsu said it’s “only” coming out for the Xbox 360.

When Square Enix showcased Nier at E3 it was announced as a multiplaform game. There’s still the mysterious Nier Replicant which isn’t pegged for a particular console or have a release window. Nier Gestalt will come out next year. Looks like the lady from the Nier Replicant ad plays a role in Nier Gestalt.

Cavia, the team behind Drakengard and (groan) Bullet Witch, is making the game. Square Enix is marketing Nier as an action RPG with hi-speed slash action and a creative game system.

Square commented on this and said that this announcement does not effect it’s North American release plans(I hate to reference Kotaku but they were the ones who got the reply from S-E). So like I thought another MS paid for timed exclusive, only this time it’s just Japanese PS3 owners who get the shaft. Guess they are trying to level the playing field in Japanese gamers eyes by having another S-E exclusive to combat all the FF13 fan fare going around. Though you have to wonder why, none of the other “exclusives” had any effect and even crap games like The last Remnant still show up on the Famitsu most wanted for PS3 despite that its readily available for 360 and has all but been confirmed canceled. Still I wonder what Neir Replicant is, and if the game is being split into east and west interests then will Western gamers have access to Replicant?

    • I don’t think that’s quite it. I have a feeling Gestalt and Replicant will be exclusive to 360 and PS3 respectively in Japan but that both versions will be multiplatform in the West. Gestalt and Replicant are probably just variants of each other if you ask me. A lot of developers seem to be following the Pokémon strategy these days.

I mean, look at Nier. That doesn’t look like the kind of protagonist (big, muscle-bound) that Japanese gamers would like. The lady on the other hand…

Then again, I could be completely wrong.

Ishaan I hope your right about this one, it would be a smart move on S-E’s part as the Neir protagonist is a bit unconventional for a Japanese audience. I like Gears of War too but lets face it Marcus and Dom are some ugly SOB’s. I agree that the protagonist for this game is not something Japanese gamers would like, too brutish. The female however would be a great choice, I also hope that if your theory is true that both versions are made available to the West as I like the female protagonist better. Also do you notice how similar this games set of main characters look to Quantum Theory’s especially the woman?

        • Haha, I thought I was the only one that thought of Quantum Thoery when I saw it!
