Infinite Space’s Futuristic Font

Wondering what Infinite Space looks like in English?

It doesn’t look that different, but the font Sega picked is an interesting choice. They selected a style heavy on right angles, a font that almost looks sci-fi. The screenshot seems to be missing something though, Tosca’s name isn’t in the English picture. Whoops!

Sega and PlatinumGames have plenty of time to fix details like that since Infinite Space isn’t coming out here until spring 2010.

  • The other pic doesn’t have the name either. That might lead to confusion I’m sure..

Also is the text suppose to overlap with the outline things in the menus? I see it’s fine in the picture with “Status” but when you see the planet and character info it overlaps.

It’s an okay font to me, I agree it fits the sci-fi theme.

    • Huh? It says: “Tosuca : ” before the quote on the Japanese version.

      • No, the other one with “Hey! That thing’s–“.

        • Ah yeah you’re right! Maybe Sega hasn’t finalized the names yet.

  • …Man… that… uh… I think it’s kind of ugly. But who knows. Maybe it’ll grow on me. At least they aren’t using Comic Sans, right?!?!

    • Hahaha. I think I know what you’re referring to!

        I don’t… What?

        • Sega used to use Comic Sans for official press releases.

  • Is that…Bank Gothic?

Edit: Nevermind, it’s not. Bank Gothic doesn’t have a proper lowercase.

  • Ow. I think my eyes had a minor seizure at the font in English before settling down. That font’ll take a bit getting used to.

  • That doesn’t look like a professional font more than it is some custom by some fan translator or intern with a bad attitude…

It really is something you could whip up in five minutes on MS Paint. I’m not going to complain too much because I’m just so happy that this is even making it over here in the first place, but there’s no away around the fact that the font’s just plain bad.

    • So who is releasing this rom hack patch? Oh wait, this is the actual font? It’s definitely interesting. I won’t think a thing of it after a few moments of reading it in all honesty. I still can’t wait for this game. Though I fear it’s release date being close to Mass Effect 2 will cause it to be buried in a pile of my games.

In a future where an intergalactic dictatorship has imposed a strict right angles-only policy on the alphabet, a ragtag group of ship pilots band together to oppose this tyranny. The ensuing conflict gives birth to the epic tale known as INFINITE SPACE.

I’m super psyched for this game, but those english screenshots look like a proof of concept from a fan translation group. I hope they reconsider that font…

  • I’m glad they’re trying to tie it in to the sci-fi thing and all, but I can see that being difficult to read in large amounts or over large periods of time.

looks like old GameBoy RPG text, which works just fine. You guys are just being a bunch of babies.

eh, the font isn’t the best, but I still happy the game is getting localized.
