Probably like "hey, the sequel to one of our worst selling games ever is also one of our worst selling games ever, surprise!"?

With only ~20k produced in the first run, chances of being a retail smash-hit are kinda slim.

Is it important? The fact that the original was a flop didn't stop them from producing this sequel, (allegedly just on the grounds of how well the original sold on VC in the West, don't know / care if true) so...

Great article. Even though I don't understand much about programming, it's always cool to read someone talk about it. For example, I had some fun reading Carmack's blog entry about Wolfenstein on the iPhone. Also, it's good to see Iwata admit that the N64 was kinda, well, bad. Because it was. It was a 3D machine more powerful than either Saturn or PSX, but at the same time, with many more limitations.

Only on the technical side, though. My favorite console from the 32/64 bit era would probably be the Saturn, but I must admit that the N64 was pretty interesting too. The graphics were ok (though no RGB output in PAL machines is something I'll never, ever understand), and even though the joypad was bleh, the games were nice.

I don't think they're surprised to be honest. It's a very niche franchise, both in Japan and in the west, and it barely had any marketing behind it. They've been aware of the bad sales situation on the Wii front for a while now.
