Iwata said the same about MH3. It's a smart way for Nintendo to nab big name JP exclusives, and they've already got a good track record with what they've done for Layton.

I wonder if SE/L5 will add online play for the western release? They could rebrand and rerelease it in Japan next year then too…

Nintendo is big enough to support first and third party titles, but it's the fact that they don't do it. If you look towards how many titles Sony and Microsoft release first party then you look at Nintendo. It's a joke. Nintendo really doesn't care about pushing more games out that people might be interested in.

Nintendo knows that Dragon Quest is the big money maker in Japan so why not support advertising that instead of giving a damn about anything else. They want to push more systems because of this game over anything else. That's guaranteed.

This topic was touched upon in the earnings Q&A. Basically, Iwata said their strategy has always been the same — to produce less software which sells over a longer period of time. He did say, though, (later on in the conference) that times were changing and Nintendo would have to rethink some of their practises.

I think Nintendo is big enough to support both first and third party titles.

I had almost forgotten DQIX until i recently checked my DS list of games to buy.But first i have to finish the remakes of DQIV,V (and eventually VI) before i get IX.:/

I agree with you, Iwata even stated that they “didn’t release strong software continually [for the Wii] and let the good mood cool down.” They need to focus on making 1st party titles and get them out before supporting what little good 3rd party titles are coming out for it.

I mean that they should be spending time and money on their first party titles, like Soma Bringer, that they seem to want to ignore before they spend money on third party titles.

Nintendo doesn't need to worry about their first party titles. Anything they put out is pretty much guaranteed to sell.

Have you played any of the other DQ games? VIII isn't really all that similar to this one other than what has been consistent through the rest of the series.

If you haven't, I'd recommend starting with III and V.

How about no. I am very eager to get this game, because Dragon Quest 8, my first DQ game, was probably my favorite PS2 game, and the one I kept the longest.(I had it for 4 years, still have it, still play it, still enoy it. And I'm not even a fan of RPGs really.)
