Square Enix Prepares Modern Warfare 2 Bundle For Japan

By Spencer . November 10, 2009 . 7:18am

image Yes, you read that right. Square Enix, best known for games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, will publish Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in Japan.

This won’t be a small release like when Spike, the studio behind all of those Dragon Ball fighting games, handled the series in Japan. Square Enix is bringing over the limited edition Xbox 360 bundle too. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 package contains the same items (a Xbox 360 w/ 2 controllers plus 250GB hard drive) as the domestic package. It’s just made for Japan and has Square Enix’s logo on it.

Last year, Square Enix and Microsoft partnered to release a Last Remnant console. This year’s holiday bundle is for Modern Warfare 2.

Cue the posts from people who hate first-person shooters and how they’re not fun and generic.

    • cowcow

fun is subjective as well as generic but the genre is oversaturated and I’m surprised the Japanese even care cause usually they dont. I guess lack of proper Japanese console titles eventually got to them

  • If this supports the HDMI port (which I’m sure it does) I may have to finally upgrade my early Japanese model. I hope this sports a decent price tag! Extra controllers would be nice too.

Every model since 2008 has supported the HDMI, so yeah.

Oh, and I seriously need to get a new 360 too. My day one went to repair once in 2007, but the replacement was still an old model. And it’s out of warranty now. I wonder how much I could get for a 20Gb Pro.

      • Bonus. Now as long as it supports a decent price point, I’ll pick it up.

I’m looking to upgrade my Jpn system too since it’s the older HDMI-less version and warranty is about to run out next Jan. It’s running fine after the MS replacement, but it sounds a little noisy, maybe I’m just used to the HDMI Jasper quiet (runs cool too even after a whole day), I’m trying not to play too much to strain it, one reason I’m not importing Bayonetta on 360. There’s a huge problem though, even though I am desperate for a 250gb HDD, I can’t seem to bring myself to like this MW2 design. The gun-metal gray is alright and I’m going to switch the faceplate anyway, but there’s this huge gray band (like dirty paint) on one side, and a big number 2 on the other side of the system. I’m not sure if I can live w/ that. So I hope they would release a 250Gb w/ another bundle. I’ve debated w/ myself for a long time ever since they made the US announcement, and concluded I don’t like the looks of this system, despite it being such an attractive package, plus I’m actually in need of another Jpn system. I hope they would release a nice Natal bundle, or I pray they would go easy on the price of the standalone 250Gb HDD.

        • How does 39,990 yen sound?

          • That’s up there, but I needed an excuse to buy an import 360. I wonder how my roommates will react when they see the Square-Enix logo on Call of Duty packaging.

          • To be honest, I’m not sure if I want to spend that much yet. Aoshi does make a few valid points on the looks but the faceplate is what I see most. That will most likely sport the Blue Dragon faceplate nicely (the Elite wears it well, at least). Two controllers is nice. I’ll check out more images. Thanks for the update, Spencer. Now I know what I’m looking at. Possibly passing on the non-HDMI to a friend. It would also be funny to hear the “Team Talk” in Japanese for CoD:MW2. R6:Vegas always made me chuckle.

About the color, I saw the videos (I actually tried my hardest to see this thing from every angle, lol), it’s more of a gun metal like the MGS4 PS3 bundle instead of the elite black, so it might not go well w/ your Blue Dragon faceplate. Also, 40,000 yen pretty much translates to over $500 and shipping importing it.. I still want to replace my Jpn system w/ an HDMI 250Gb (+ Natal?) though when the price is right. I actually have my 360 standing, but I thought if I ever put it lying down, I know that grey paint is going to bug me :)

That box itself looks pretty nice. :3
