Cyber Driver, Japan’s First Person Shooter For Arcades

By Spencer . December 16, 2009 . 10:32am

image Space Invaders developer Taito, believe it or not, has some experience with the FPS genre. They made a Half-Life 2: Survivor cabinet for arcades and now they have an original FPS called Cyber Driver.

Like Half-Life 2: Survivor, Cyber Driver is for arcades. Battles are 5 on 5 fights and can be played online. What makes Cyber Driver unique is its job system. You can be a robot guardian, a John Woo equipped ranger, or a creepy chainsaw wielding medic. Take a look at some of the classes below.

I played that Half LIfe 2 in the arcade. Wasnt that just the PC game put into a cabinet? I never played the PC game so not sure.

it looks awesome maybe it will get a console port if so i’d try it out…

  • It looks fun, but I guess the real question will be how well Japan has gotten over its phobia of FPSes to embrace this game. Here’s hoping for a console port that makes its way to the West, though.

  • a FPS style game in arcades with sound system , rumbling chairs etc etc would actually be immense , imagine if they used the same cab as afterburner climax DX

It certainly looks fun but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Being in Japan and being an arcade game gives this a rather unique market but port it to a console and it immediately has tons of competition that are likely better in every way.

This has to run on the source engine. IT looks too simmilar to it. And I recognize that explosive barrel.

    It still looks fun however.
